The outstanding 2018 vintage saw @bridevalleywine Vineyard take the decision to produce their very first still wines: a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We love the Chardonnay, very floral and citrus driven aromas, a broad textured palate and bright refreshing acidity lifting the finish… a bit like a Dorset white Burgundy. The Pinot Noir shows great Burgundian characteristics reminiscent of the wines of Givry or Rully of the Côte Chalonnaise. Highly recommended!

English Wine Week! 🥂with @WineGB.

Award winning Furleigh Estate produce terrific summer whites, perfect for now and here we explore their Bacchus wines.

Bacchus is a grape variety that is ever growing in popularity here in the UK, and depending on where it’s grown it can show distinctive varietal character. We find that here with these wines of West Dorset.

The highly aromatic ‘Bacchus Dry’ is a wonderfully fresh white, full of bright zesty citrus fruit with lifted floral notes of elderflower and cut nettles. The ‘Bacchus Fume’ on the other hand brings fuller tropical flavours, with subtle vanilla notes coming from oak and a richer mouthfeel.

A chilled glass works as an ideal aperitif, but these two wines are most food friendly. Try with some simply prepared, locally caught seafood. Or, if you’d like to experiment, the aromatic flavours of Thai cuisine would complement these two wines terrifically!

To continue our celebration of English Wine Week with @winegb here we introduce @bridevalleywine.
After a much celebrated career in the wine trade, Steven Spurrier and his wife Arabella established Bride Valley, a stunning wine estate set just 4 miles inland from the Jurassic Coast in West #Dorset.
It was upon discovering that the chalky soils of Bella’s family sheep farm were “very similar to that of Champagne” and ideally suited to the production of world class sparkling wine that the Bride Valley journey began.
The estate has been sustainably farmed for centuries and now has 10 hectares of carefully selected vines planted on south facing slopes to create the finest quality expression of the land.
The vineyard continues to be maintained to the highest degree following organic principles, and at vintage time all of the grapes are hand harvested then taken to neighbouring Furleigh Estate where award-winning winemaker Ian Edwards vinifies the wine in his state-of-the-art winery.
Bride valley strive to produce wines that speak of the place they were born, and this is certainly evident here. Producing a range of elegant and precise sparkling wines and after the finest vintage on record for the UK in 2018, their outstanding Dorset Chardonnay shows real promise for English still wines. We’re very proud to be able to offer you their wines and look forward to following their journey!

To celebrate English Wine Week we would like to share our introduction to @furleigh.estate with you! 🍾

Nestled in amongst the rolling hills of the stunning Dorset countryside, just a short drive from Bridport we find Furleigh Estate vineyard and winery.
Established on the site of an old dairy farm by Ian Edwards and Rebecca Handsford, this beautiful estate is planted mainly to the classic Champagne grape varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

The vineyard team are challenged each year by the cool maritime climate we feel here on the south coast of England, but they are absolutely dedicated to producing the very best fruit possible.

In the immaculately kept winery, Ian employs the traditional method to create sparkling wine, his careful and studious approach to winemaking with meticulous attention to detail has seen Furleigh produce a range of award-winning wines of exceptional quality.

Ian was voted UK Winemaker of the Year in 2012, and continues to lead the role as head winemaker at Furleigh, each year helping to mentor young students of the trade through a new vintage.

We’re proud to stock these wines and we’ll be introducing you to a few of them over the course of the week.
