Mandrarossa Ciaca Bianca, Fiano 2018
Fiano is widely planted across southern Italy and capable of producing very high quality wines. This particular example comes from the island of Sicily, full of fresh and fragrant aromatics, lovely ripe fruit and a fresh mineral driven palate… very attractive indeed!
Domaine Patrick Vauvy, Sauvignon Blanc 2019
My top picks could have solely come from the Loire given the quality of wines that has been coming out of this region in recent vintages. This Touraine Sauvignon shows lifted aromas of citrus, a beautifully broad and attractive palate, almost tropical but balanced with refreshing acidity.
Quintas do Homen, Vinho Verde 2019
Quintas do Homen is a very fine and dynamic family run wine estate from Portugal which has carefully integrated principles of sustainability into their production of top quality, pure and elegant wines. We love their Vinho Verde, bright wonderful fruit, crisp and refreshing, a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. We do hope to bring you more of their wines to you in the future!
Domaine De Colette, Beaujolais-Villages 2018
Another wonderfully charming family run wine estate, who cultivate their vineyards to the highest ecological standards and produce their wine using traditional methods of the region. A wine to put a smile on your face! Light and aromatic, full of delightful crunchy red fruits and light supple tannins… perfect on just about any occasion. Best served just lightly chilled.
Guillaume Gonnet, Cairanne 2016
Charismatic winemaker Guillaume Gonnet learnt his craft in various Australian and New Zealand wine regions whilst revelling in the opportunity to surf some of the best waves of the world. Returning to the Rhône, he and his Australian wife pursue biodynamics wherever possible and allow the fruit to express itself freely through hands-off winemaking. This Cairanne (a lesser known village of the Côtes du Rhône), comes from the brilliant vintage of 2016, has intriguing rustic charm, full of intense dark fruits and Provencal aromas of dried herbs. It’s juicy, soft supple texture would make it a great pair with a shoulder of lamb or vegetarian cassoulet.
Felino, Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
In Argentina we find some of the world’s highest vineyards, in the Mendoza Provence the vineyards for this Melino are found at almost 4,000ft above sea level! With extreme heat and almost desert like conditions, the elevation helps to provide much needed cooling influences that make is possible to produce elegant and balanced wine. For lovers of Cabernet Sauvignon (or just ‘Cab’) this really hits the mark, showing great varietal typicity. Deep ruby red. On the nose, aromas of cassis and forest fruits are complemented by spicy notes. The flavours on the palate are round and concentrated, supported by firm tannins. Very fine!
