We have held many Gin tasting evenings here at M&B HQ in Brewery Square, Dorchester and showcased terrific Gins from all over the UK and beyond, always something new and delicious to excite the tastebuds! This summer we decided to take the Gin tasting a step further and distill our very own… Pope Street Gin!
The fantastic mobile distillery Still on the Move truddled into Brewery Square with a Juniper head wind on August 3rd to create our new London Dry Gin, 1 Pope Street Gin, so called with a nod to the Eldridge Pope old Brewery site that we stand on. Cocktail specialist Lloyd Brown of the Grey Bear Bar Company had been testing and developing our ideas to transform into a recipe and bring a little Gin magic to reality.
Distillation started with the neutral based spirit readied to receive the botanicals which included Juniper, Cubeb, Lemongrass, dried Lemon peel, Kaffir Lime leaf and Jester Hops from Cerne Abbas Brewery . All weighed out and added to the beautiful copper still ‘Prosperity’ housed on the back of a classic VW Pickup ‘Ginny’.
The result is a smooth London Dry Gin, flavoured with subtle aromatic botanicals, Juniper led with light, zingy citrus and a warm Cassia finish.
Tasting was eagerly anticipated, bottles were opened as soon as the first few came off the Still. A terrific result ensued, tasting amazing with Indian Tonic and perhaps a slice of pink grapefruit to compliment those citrus notes.
Nearly all of the very limited small batch edition 140 bottles have been sold and enjoyed, watch this space for the next one!
Thanks to Brewery Square and our lovely customers for supporting.
